About Miss Lisa
My program began receiving support from the READY (Road to Early Achievement and Development of Youth) Program in June 2014 and the program became a VIP (Value in Preschool) certified site in September 2014. Then the program had environmental evaluations and teacher interaction evaluations that scored at the top of the rating scale. This helped us earn the Quality Counts Award in the year cycles 2016-2018. Then received the award again in Fall of 2018 for the 2018-2020 cycle. This makes the program a 2 time recipient for receiving Tier 5 on the California Quality Rating Matrix.
I have worked with young children for more than 35 years and believe in the importance of quality interactions between the teachers and the children and in the environment. This program has been licensed since 1995. Currently I have graduated with an Associate in Arts degree of Social and Behavioral Sciences. I also have received my Master Teacher permit from the State of California. I have an AA in Child Development. I graduated from SSU with a Bachelor's in Liberal Studies, and have expanded my education with EDEC Language Development to have more knowledge in teaching reading and literacy.
The importance of professional development and new techniques are one of my top values. Learning myself, has helped me to continue to look at each child and how each individual learns differently. Over the years, I have encouraged many children's talents, interests, and creative development. My passion is creating opportunities for exploration through many open-ended activities. Children can learn through play to grow socially, emotionally, cognitively, and physically. Along with a daily routine, children develop their own emerging strengths with many hands-on choices to solve problems, ask questions, and build their thinking skills. With a grant from First Five, the program has acquired materials to help with STEAM.. This is an acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math. Children are encouraged to use materials in Language/Literature area, Blocks, Dramatic Play, Math and loose parts, Science, and Creative Arts, as well as individual music and group music time. Water and sensory materials are a daily choice. Nature and Environmental awareness is also part of the learning activities. In the outdoors, children are encouraged to plant, and take care of the garden, as well as learn about composting and recycling. Living creatures are part of the daily curriculum from frogs and lizards to guinea pigs and dogs. Family culture is another part of this program, and the value of diversity is recognized as an important aspect to provide respectful relationships and a better community. Also, there have been many field trips to encourage extended learning.
